The New York Jets swung a trade to acquire Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday morning, which does not come as much of a surprise given how much Adams wanted to reunite with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
While Adams should definitely add a new dimension to the Jets’ passing game, not everyone is in love with the move for New York.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox provided a rather sobering take on the trade for the Jets, giving them a C-plus grade for their acquisition.
Knox labeled the trade a “desperate” one for New York and does not think the move will instantly solve all of the Jets’ problems offensively.
Even if Adams won’t prove to be a cure-all for Gang Green’s issues, he will absolutely help.
The 31-year-old’s connection with Rodgers is well-founded from their Green Bay Packers days, as Adams made five straight Pro Bowl appearances with Rodgers throwing him the football between 2017 and 2021.
Adams’ best season came in his final year with the Packers, when he hauled in 123 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Green Bay dealt Adams to the Raiders in March 2022, and in his debut campaign in Las Vegas, Adams was brilliant, catching 100 passes for 1,516 yards and 14 scores.
However, the Fresno State product has shown some signs of decline since then, and he has actually missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury.
In three games this season, Adams has logged 18 catches for 209 yards while reaching the end zone once. That came with Gardner Minshew as his quarterback in Vegas.
We’ll see if Davante Adams can help the New York Jets get back on track for a playoff run.
