Braxton Berrios has quietly positioned himself as a player worth watching closely as the New York Giants continue evaluating their roster during the preseason.

The veteran wide receiver and return specialist did not dress for Saturday’s contest against the Miami Dolphins, initially appearing to join a group of established contributors who were given the night off.

That group included quarterback Jaxson Dart, left tackle Andrew Thomas, and outside linebacker Brian Burns, among others. Later clarification from the coaching staff revealed a different reason for his absence.

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, coach John Harbaugh informed the New York Post that Berrios was held out because of a minor soft tissue injury.

Even so, the fact that Berrios was managed carefully underscores how the coaching staff is treating him as someone with genuine value as final roster decisions approach.

Berrios has given the Giants consistent reasons for optimism throughout camp and the early preseason. In the team’s first preseason game he handled primary return duties and performed the role effectively, showing the reliable hands and decision-making that have defined much of his career.

Equally important, he has produced solid work as a receiver during practices, demonstrating the route precision and separation skills that allow him to contribute in the short-to-intermediate passing game. Those dual contributions matter for a team still sorting through its depth at the skill positions and looking for players who can fill multiple roles.

The injury absence on Saturday was understandable given that Berrios still needs to solidify his place on the final roster. Competition for roster spots among the wide receivers remains real, and every healthy practice and game appearance carries weight. Yet the trajectory of his stock has been clearly upward.

By proving himself as both a capable returner and a dependable target, Berrios has made a compelling case that he belongs among the 53 players the Giants will keep when the regular season begins. His experience, versatility, and steady performance have placed him in a favorable position relative to some of the younger or less proven candidates still fighting for spots.

As the final weeks of the preseason unfold, Berrios will have additional opportunities to reinforce that impression once he is fully healthy. The Giants appear inclined to keep players who can contribute on offense and special teams, and Berrios fits that profile well.

His recent body of work suggests he is trending toward securing a roster berth, provided the minor soft tissue issue resolves without setbacks and he continues delivering the same level of reliability he has shown so far.

For a veteran seeking to extend his career with a new team, that kind of momentum is valuable heading into the decisive stretch of training camp.
