As the New Orleans Saints prepare to face the New York Giants this afternoon at MetLife Stadium, wide receiver Chris Olave appears poised to suit up despite lingering questions about his availability.

The 1-4 Saints enter the Week 6 matchup in need of a spark, and their leading receiver has been cleared in all but name for the 1 p.m. ET kickoff on FOX.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Saints expect Olave to play, easing concerns after he was officially listed as questionable with an illness.

The illness, which also sidelined defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd for portions of the week, forced Olave to miss practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He returned for a limited session

Friday, a positive step that provided him additional recovery time heading into Sunday. Coach Kellen Moore noted the importance of easing back in after sickness, and the Friday work suggested Olave had turned a corner.

Throughout the season, he has yet to miss a game, a streak he has maintained while navigating various physical setbacks.

Olave’s medical history has drawn attention in recent years, including blood clots and other issues that prompted him to wear a Guardian Cap for added protection during practices and games.

Earlier this season, he dealt with a minor foot bruise that required a walking boot as a precaution before the Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, yet he still took the field.

The current illness is unrelated to those prior concerns or the foot issue, instead tracing to a contagious bug circulating in the Saints’ locker room.

On the field, Olave has been central to a pass-oriented offense directed by quarterback Tyler Shough. Through five games he has caught 39 passes on 54 targets for 537 yards and one touchdown, ranking among the league’s most productive receivers in yardage.

His Week 5 output was modest—just 46 yards—as Shough managed only 96 passing yards in the defeat to Minnesota.

A healthier version of the attack against the Giants could restore some of the big-play potential that has defined Olave’s contributions when the offense clicks.

For a Saints team that has dropped three consecutive games and sits at the bottom of the NFC South, Olave’s presence would represent a meaningful lift.

The Giants enter at 3-1-1 and hold home-field advantage, but New Orleans has shown flashes on the road, including a Week 2 win at Baltimore.

With several other players listed as questionable, including running back Alvin Kamara (back), the Saints will need their top skill-position talent available to keep pace in a game that could influence the trajectory of their season.

Should Olave take the field as anticipated, he offers the offense its most reliable downfield threat against a Giants secondary that has faced its own injury challenges this week.
