The New England Patriots entered the 2026 season with a revitalized receiving corps built around A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, only to watch that plan take an immediate hit.

Brown suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 1 loss to Seattle and is expected to miss significant time, leaving Drake Maye with a thinner group of options just as the offense is still finding its rhythm.

Depth pieces like Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, and Kyle Williams can fill snaps, but the sudden absence of a proven perimeter target has already put New England in the conversation for midseason help.

On that note, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named the Patriots one of two logical landing spots for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy on his 2026 NFL Trade Block Big Board entering Week 2.

Knox ranked Jeudy fourth on the list of realistic trade candidates, projecting a modest return of a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick.

The Browns have shifted their passing attack toward rookies Denzel Boston and K.C. Concepcion after trading Myles Garrett, and Jeudy’s two-catch, 26-yard outing in Week 1 did little to change that direction.

For New England, the fit is straightforward. Jeudy is only 27 and remains in the middle of the three-year, $52.5 million extension he signed with Cleveland in March 2024.

That deal carries a relatively manageable cap number this season after earlier restructures, giving a contender a veteran who can step in without a massive long-term commitment.

Maye has already shown he can distribute the ball to multiple receivers; adding a route-running, intermediate-to-deep threat who posted Pro Bowl production as recently as 2024 would give the offense another reliable option while Brown recovers.

The Patriots have been aggressive on the receiver market before, most recently bringing in Brown himself.

A move for Jeudy would not require surrendering a premium draft asset, according to Knox’s valuation, and would address an immediate need without disrupting the long-term picture.

Cleveland’s rebuild makes Jeudy available earlier than many expected.

If New England’s passing game continues to look incomplete without Brown, the front office now has a clear, Patriots-centric reason to pick up the phone.

The Pats will face the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
