Christian Koloko, the 7-foot-1 center who recently signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, is feeling optimistic about his return to NBA action following a serious health scare earlier this year.

Koloko, who dealt with a career-threatening blood clot issue while with the Toronto Raptors, told TMZ Sports that he’s confident he’ll be able to contribute to the Lakers this season. However, he is still waiting for official clearance from the NBA’s “fitness-to-play panel.”

Koloko, who could provide valuable depth in the Lakers’ frontcourt behind Anthony Davis, expressed his excitement about joining the team and contributing to their success. “I feel amazing,” Koloko said. “My doctors gave me the green light, but now we’re just waiting on the NBA. We’re pretty optimistic. Hopefully, everything goes well.”

Health Issues and NBA Clearance

Koloko’s health scare last season sidelined him after just 58 career NBA games with the Toronto Raptors. The Cameroonian center was placed into the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel due to the blood clot issue, and while his doctors have now cleared him medically, the NBA’s clearance is still required for him to take the court.

In his interview with TMZ Sports, Koloko expressed confidence that the NBA will clear him soon, allowing him to join the Lakers on the court. “I’m just gonna come in ready,” Koloko said. “Be ready to do whatever it takes to have the team win, and that’s the goal—win!”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Christian Koloko, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

With the NBA’s Media Day and training camp approaching, time is running out for Koloko to receive clearance if he wants to participate in practices from the start. Despite the uncertainty, the Lakers are reportedly optimistic that Koloko will eventually be cleared.

Lakers Counting on Koloko for Frontcourt Depth

The Lakers have been seeking additional frontcourt depth, especially with Christian Wood currently dealing with an injury. If cleared, Koloko’s 7-foot-1 frame and 7-foot-5 wingspan would provide the Lakers with much-needed interior defense and rebounding, two areas where the team has struggled outside of Anthony Davis in recent seasons.

Koloko has already spent time with his new teammates, including LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and he’s eager to make an impact. “I’m ready to help the team win,” he reiterated to TMZ Sports.

Should Koloko not be cleared, the Lakers may need to explore other options to bolster their frontcourt, but for now, the team remains hopeful that Koloko will be part of their plans moving forward.
