The Nashville Predators barely snuck into the postseason in 2024 in the Western Conference. Their 99 points scored were tied for the second-fewest, setting them up in a first-round series with the Vancouver Canucks.

They were eliminated in six games, starting their 2024 NHL offseason earlier than they had anticipated. With time to formulate a game plan, they put together one that included them being aggressive early in free agency.

On Monday, they wasted no time in getting to work. Looking to elevate to the elite contenders status in the Western Conference, the Nashville Predators took steps toward that with the free agent additions they made.

The biggest addition was snagging Steven Stamkos away from the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is signing a four-year deal worth approximately $8 million annually in a shocking move.

After 16 seasons with the Lightning, Stamkos has a new home in Nashville. Tampa Bay wasted no time filling his spot in the lineup, agreeing to a deal with Jake Guentzel.

“Thank you, Tampa. I don’t have the words yet … I will soon. It’s still too early to process,” Stamkos said in a statement. “Just wanted everyone to know how thankful we are for 16 years as a Bolt. My family and I are excited for the next chapter.”

Along with Stamkos, the Nashville Predators added more firepower to their offense agreeing to a deal with Jonathan Marchessault. His deal is reportedly for five years and worth approximately $5.5 million annually.

With the Vegas Golden Knights since their inception, he was the MVP of their Stanley Cup run in 2023. He is part of a mass exodus from Vegas, as the team figures out their salary cap situation.

Last but not least, the Nashville Predators made a huge addition to their blue line. Brady Skjei of the Carolina Hurricanes is joining the team on a deal reported to be seven years and $7 million annually.

Skjei is a seasoned veteran, entering his 10th season in the NHL.  He recorded 47 points in 80 games last season. General manager Barry Trotz helped get the team into the postseason in his first with the franchise and is now looking to turn them into contenders in Year 2.
