The Minnesota Vikings added two veteran practice-squad players to the active roster Saturday, elevating running back DeeJay Dallas and outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the Green Bay Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium, via the NFL transaction log.
Both players signed with Minnesota on Sept. 2 and will make their Vikings debuts if they dress. Under NFL rules, they can be elevated up to three times this season before needing a full roster spot.
After Sunday, they revert to the practice squad unless signed.
Van Noy, 35, is entering his 13th NFL season. A 2014 second-round pick of the Detroit Lions out of BYU, he has started 115 of 173 regular-season games for the Lions, Patriots, Dolphins, Chargers and Ravens. He has 561 tackles, 74 tackles for loss, 57 sacks and four interceptions.
A two-time Super Bowl champion with New England, he played for Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores in both New England and Miami.
After three seasons in Baltimore — including a Pro Bowl year with 12.5 sacks in 2024 and two sacks in 2025 — he gives Minnesota experienced depth behind Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner. Tyler Batty’s season-ending knee injury left the edge room thin behind those two starters.
Dallas, who turns 28 on Sept. 16, was a fourth-round pick by Seattle in 2020 out of Miami.
He has appeared in 84 games for the Seahawks, Cardinals, Panthers and Jaguars, rushing 124 times for 538 yards and four touchdowns and catching 64 passes for 407 yards and two scores.
He also has 89 kickoff returns for a 25.3-yard average and one touchdown. He joins a backfield that already includes Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason and rookie Demond Claiborne and could see work as a change-of-pace runner or returner.
The Vikings enter the NFC North opener without an injury designation on the 53-man roster.
The moves add veteran insurance on both sides of the ball as Kyler Murray makes his Minnesota starting debut against a familiar rival.
Whether either player earns a larger role after Week 1 will depend on how they perform and how the roster shakes out in the weeks ahead.
