Minnesota Vikings Rumors: Justin Jefferson Seeking Record Contract

Justin Jefferson, Vikings Rumors

Most Minnesota Vikings rumors recently have centered around star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Arguably the best player in the NFL at his position, Jefferson has not been with the team to this point during offseason workouts as he awaits a contract extension.

There is little doubt that Justin Jefferson is going to be a very wealthy man once this extension is worked out. He has cemented his status as one of the most impactful non-quarterbacks in the league and wants to be compensated as such.

However, if recent Vikings rumors are to be believed, the team is going to have to back the Brinks truck up for him. According to Armando Salguero of Outkick, Justin Jefferson is not only seeking a contract that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, but he wants to be paid like the top signal callers in the league.

“As salaries for some non-quarterback positions rise, one source said Jefferson wants to be paid like some quarterbacks,” Salguero wrote. “At one point in the negotiation [with the Vikings], he wanted to reach the $40 million per year mark on an annual average, according to the source. It’s unclear if that is still where the talks are centered.

“Jefferson also wants to do a deal that includes fully guaranteed money that is at or close to $100 million, another source told OutKick,” Salguero added.

That is an unprecedented asking price Jefferson and his representatives are seeking. Right now 13 quarterbacks in the league earn $40 million annually, as teams are willing to pay that price to lock down someone at the most important position on the field.

Will Minnesota be willing to pay that much money to a wide receiver? After using a first-round pick on quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the 2024 NFL Draft, the team certainly has the means to spend elsewhere on the roster should it come down to that.

According to some Vikings rumors, Justin Jefferson has already turned down an offer that would have paid him more than $30 million annually. It certainly sounds like this is something that will take some time to figure out, as Jefferson is going to hold out for as much money as possible.
