The Minnesota Vikings already have one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks in Byron Murphy, who opted to re-sign with the team in free agency. But could the Vikings add another elite corner into their midst?
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton feels it’s a possibility, proposing a trade that would send Miami Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey to Minnesota in exchange for a third-round draft pick.
“The Vikings haven’t re-signed Stephon Gilmore, leaving a glaring need in the secondary,” Moton wrote. “They signed a couple of placeholder veterans, Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah, to fill the void ahead of the draft. Last July, Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL, and he only started in three games during his rookie campaign.”
The Dolphins appear to be moving on from Ramsey, who is under contract through 2028 and has a whole lot of money coming to him. That’s what makes a potential trade complicated. However, for a win-now team like the Vikings, the risk may be worth it.
Ramsey has been one of the best defensive backs in football since entering the league in 2016, making seven Pro Bowl appearances while also earning three First-Team All-Pro selections.
It should be noted, however, that the 30-year-old did exhibit some signs of decline this past season, as it marked the first time he did not make a trip to the Pro Bowl since 2016.
That being said, Ramsey remains one of the best players at his position, and he would definitely help a Vikings club that won 14 games in 2024.
