The Minnesota Vikings waived wide receiver Jeshaun Jones on Monday, ending a brief return to the active roster that lasted barely a week after he finished a three-game suspension.

Minnesota confirmed the move in a team statement. Jones, 26, had been restored to the 53-man roster on September 28 once the league lifted his ban for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

That suspension, announced in late August, covered the first three weeks of the regular season. Reporting at the time tied the penalty to an April arrest in Hillsborough County, Florida, on a charge of refusing a breath test.

Jones later pleaded no contest to reckless driving, a reduced count, and the three-game ban matched the league’s usual response in similar cases.

The waiver closes another short chapter in a career that has never settled into a permanent roster spot. Jones arrived in Minnesota as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 draft, following six seasons at Maryland.

He was a three-year starter for the Terrapins and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023. Across 48 college games he caught 151 passes for 2,040 yards and 14 touchdowns, and he added 20 carries for 188 yards and two scores.

Those numbers were enough to earn a camp invitation, but not enough to survive the first set of cuts. Minnesota waived him out of the 2024 preseason, brought him back to the practice squad, and has repeated some version of that cycle ever since.

He signed reserve/future contracts after both the 2024 and 2025 seasons, spent most of his time on the practice squad, and logged a single regular-season appearance in 2025, returning two punts for five yards.

This summer looked briefly more promising. Jones had five catches for 63 yards in a preseason loss to Baltimore, the kind of outing that can push a depth receiver onto the initial roster. The suspension changed the math.

Rather than carry him on the reserve/suspended list through the first three weeks, the Vikings cut him at the roster deadline, then brought him back once the ban ended. Monday’s waiver suggests that window was always narrow.

At 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds, Jones has been used more as a special-teams and developmental option than as a featured receiver.

Clearing waivers would make him eligible for another practice-squad deal in Minnesota or elsewhere, which is the path he has already walked for three seasons.

If another club claims him, it would be the first time since he signed as a rookie that his NFL career leaves Minnesota.

Either way, the move is another reminder of how thin the margin is for undrafted receivers who spend their early years bouncing between the active list and the practice squad.
