The Milwaukee Brewers entered Tuesday looking for a rebound after a lopsided 17-3 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Cubs the night before.

The loss marked the start of a four-game series that already felt like a must-win stretch for a club trying to stay in the thick of the National League Central race.

In the hours after that blowout, Milwaukee made a roster move that signaled both urgency and a willingness to shake things up behind the plate.

The team announced that catcher Bo Naylor had been recalled from Triple-A Nashville. At the same time, left-handed pitcher JoJo Romero was reinstated from the 15-day injured list. Naylor’s promotion came only a week after the Brewers had optioned him back to the minors.

The 26-year-old has yet to appear in a major-league game for Milwaukee since arriving from the Cleveland Guardians just before the 2026 trade deadline. Now he is back on the active roster and available as the Brewers try to even the series.

Naylor’s brief stay in Nashville produced encouraging numbers. In 14 games he hit .283 with four home runs and 17 RBIs. Those figures stand in contrast to the struggles he experienced earlier in the season with Cleveland.

Before the trade he appeared in 90 games for the Guardians and managed only a .143 batting average, two home runs and seven RBIs. The previous year had been only marginally better: 14 homers and 47 RBIs across 123 games, but still a .195 average that left questions about his offensive consistency.

The Brewers clearly hope the change of scenery and a short stretch of success in the minors have reset Naylor’s timing.

Milwaukee’s catching situation has been a rotating one, and the club appears ready to give the former Cleveland prospect another look at the big-league level.

Whether he starts Tuesday or simply provides depth, his presence adds another option as the Brewers attempt to put Monday’s embarrassment behind them.

A 17-3 loss can expose more than just one night of poor pitching or sloppy defense. It can force a team to examine every available piece on the roster.

By bringing Naylor back so quickly, Milwaukee is betting that his recent minor-league production is more representative of what he can offer than the numbers he posted in Cleveland.

The next few games against the Cubs will show whether that bet pays off or whether the Brewers will need still another adjustment before the series ends.
