The Milwaukee Brewers entered the final game of their series against the New York Mets with more than a chance at another victory on their minds.
Before first pitch of what became an 8-1 win that pushed the club to 82 victories, the team updated the status of right-handed reliever Abner Uribe, whose return from the injured list has become a growing point of interest as the season heads into its last stretch.
Uribe has been sidelined with a right forearm flexor strain. According to the Brewers’ official injury report, the earliest he can rejoin the major-league roster is August 28. He began a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on August 25 and became eligible for reinstatement from the injured list a day later.
The club’s public timeline still lists a late-August or early-September target, yet that window could tighten if bullpen needs demand it. Reporter Sophia Minnaert added that Uribe is expected to rejoin the team this weekend, offering the most optimistic reading of the same information.
The 26-year-old has already taken the first step back on the mound. In his lone rehab outing with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers he worked one inning, striking out one batter and walking another while throwing 18 pitches.
That brief appearance was enough to keep the conversation moving from “when” toward “how soon.”
Before the injury Uribe had carved out a reliable role. Across 49 appearances he posted a 2.05 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 48 strikeouts, 18 holds and six saves while going 4-2.
Those numbers made him the primary setup man in a bullpen that has helped Milwaukee stay in contention.
His contract, listed at just over $794,000, and remaining team control through 2028 make him an especially useful piece for a franchise that typically operates with one of the league’s more modest payrolls.
If the forearm holds up, there is little reason to expect a change in that assignment. The Brewers have shown they can extract high-leverage innings from inexpensive, homegrown arms, and Uribe fits that profile.
A successful return this weekend would give Milwaukee another trusted option as it tries to lock down a playoff spot and, if it gets there, survive October.
For now, the only remaining question is whether the next outing comes in a Brewers uniform rather than a Timber Rattlers one.
