Miami Heat president Pat Riley did not hold back during his end-of-season press conference, as Tyler Herro was one of the players caught in his crosshairs. Riley made plenty of headline-worthy comments as no one was safe from his ire.

The 2023-24 campaign was a tough one for Tyler Herro as he played in only 42 games, battling injuries. His production was solid, as he averaged a career-high 20.8 points and 4.5 assists per game. Alas, it wasn’t the first time he has missed large chunks of the season, as 67 games played last season is a career-high for him.

But, last year it was the postseason that Herro missed. The Miami Heat went on their run to the 2023 NBA Finals without him, as he suffered an injury in Round 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks. That led to plenty of rumors swirling that the team was better off without him, as he was involved in trade scenarios all summer.

That could very well happen again, as Pat Riley did not hold back when speaking about his scoring guard. While Riley respects the effort that Herro puts in to improving his game, there is a lot for him to work on.

It will be interesting to see how Tyler Herro responds to that. Pat Riley is likely using this as a motivation tactic, as he wants to see the 2019 first-round pick take his game to another level. As old-school as it gets, Riley is challenging his guys to see how they respond.

If the Miami Heat don’t see the results they want, they will look for a player that fits into what they are looking to achieve. His work ethic may be commendable, but the best ability is availability. If Tyler Herro cannot stay on the court, something will have to change sooner rather than later.
