Miami Dolphins Connected To Trade For Steelers’ Russell Wilson

The Miami Dolphins will be without their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, for at least the next four games after placing him on Injured Reserve. Tagovailoa suffered his third known concussion since entering the NFL, raising serious concerns about his long-term future in the league.

With Tua’s health in question, Miami must consider how to keep their playoff hopes alive—and that could mean exploring potential trade options for a proven quarterback.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano recently suggested that the Dolphins might want to explore such a route.

One intriguing name he floated is Russell Wilson, currently with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson, 35, was once regarded as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, boasting a résumé that includes nine Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl XLVIII title.

While Wilson was a top performer in his prime, recent seasons have seen a decline in his production.

In 2020, Wilson threw for 4,212 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, reaffirming his place among the league’s top passers. However, by 2022, his performance had dipped significantly, with 3,524 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

His stint with the Denver Broncos in particular left many wondering if his best days are behind him.

But the Dolphins may be willing to bet on Wilson’s veteran experience. With Tagovailoa sidelined and concerns over whether backup Skylar Thompson can shoulder the load, Wilson could provide Miami with a capable and experienced quarterback.

If the Dolphins can help him rediscover the form that made him one of the NFL’s top players, they could be getting a quarterback who still has the ability to guide them to wins.

Even if Wilson doesn’t return to his previous levels of play, he could still serve as a reliable game manager, stabilizing the offense while Miami leans on their talented defense and playmakers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

For a Dolphins team with playoff aspirations, this could be a crucial move to keep their season on track.

For Wilson, a trade to Miami might offer a fresh start after his recent struggles and provide him with a team built to compete now. Currently, Justin Fields has done a great job as the starting quarterback for the Steelers.

As the Dolphins face uncertainty with Tua’s recovery, it makes sense to explore every option, and Russell Wilson could be the veteran presence Miami needs to make a playoff push this season.

Pulling off a deal with the Steelers may not be easy, but they could at least place a call.

Whether or not they pull the trigger on such a trade remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—the Dolphins’ quarterback situation is the key storyline for the remainder of their season.
