As the Pittsburgh Steelers turn their attention to the offseason, a key question surrounding the franchise is the future of the quarterback position. Head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert have their eyes on potential upgrades, but one name reportedly off the table is Aaron Rodgers.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are reportedly not interested in pursuing the 41-year-old former MVP. Despite Rodgers’ storied career, Pittsburgh is steering clear of the aging quarterback, whose mobility has significantly declined in recent years. On The Rich Eisen Show, Dulac confirmed, “I can tell you that it won’t be Aaron Rodgers.”

Instead, the Steelers are considering other options for the 2025 season, with both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson entering free agency. Fields, who led the Steelers to a 4-2 record as a starter in 2024, seems to be the frontrunner for a potential re-signing, though other teams may offer him more lucrative deals.

Tomlin acknowledged that Justin Fields had shown he could be a capable starting quarterback in the NFL, and it’s likely the Steelers will make an effort to retain him, provided Fields is open to returning.

However, there’s still uncertainty about who will lead the Steelers in 2025. Russell Wilson has expressed his desire to return for what would be his 14th season in Pittsburgh, but sources suggest the Steelers may no longer be interested in offering him a long-term deal. Whether the team will settle on Wilson or turn to another veteran like Sam Darnold remains to be seen.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into a crucial offseason, their quarterback decision looms large. With the door on Aaron Rodgers seemingly closed, Pittsburgh is left to weigh its options for the future of its offense, aiming to solidify the position and build a competitive team for 2025.
