The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for the ultimate challenge in their pursuit of consecutive World Series titles.

Following a hard-fought American League Championship Series, the Toronto Blue Jays secured the privilege of hosting the Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series this Friday. The Dodgers head into the series as strong favorites, bolstered by a transformative offseason that significantly strengthened their roster with elite players.

Regardless of whether the Dodgers achieve their goal of back-to-back championships, their approach of aggressively acquiring top talent during the offseason is likely to persist. This winter, that strategy could lead to a major trade for Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal.

“Tarik Skubal will be entering his final year prior to free agency, leaving the Tigers in a quandary,” MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote.

“Trading Skubal would certainly have a negative impact on the Tigers in 2026. But given the type of contract the ace is expected to seek next offseason, president of baseball operations Scott Harris must consider whether he believes he can meet that price to keep Skubal in Detroit, or whether trading the pitcher now for a haul of players/prospects is a better long-term play for the club.”

With the Tigers potentially open to trade discussions for Skubal, several contending teams are expected to submit offers. Feinsand pointed out that the Dodgers are firmly in the mix, as they remain a formidable force in pursuing any high-profile player available.

The Dodgers may also hold a competitive edge in acquiring Skubal due to their robust farm system, which includes a standout prospect capable of anchoring an attractive trade package.

“A Dodgers deal would potentially have to include outfielder Josue De Paula, Los Angeles’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 13 prospect in baseball,” Feinsand added.

“The Dodgers have seven players currently on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list — not to mention an inexpensive, budding star in Roki Sasaki — giving president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman a number of chips to use in a deal if he chooses to make his pitching-rich club even richer.”

The Dodgers’ return to the World Series has been driven by their formidable starting pitching, which is poised to remain a strength in the coming season. Adding Skubal to the rotation would solidify their pitching staff as the deepest and most dominant in baseball.
