As the MLB offseason heats up, the Los Angeles Dodgers are once again positioned to make the kind of splash that sends shockwaves through the league.
Fresh off a World Series title, the defending champions have been heavily linked to superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker, who is widely expected to hit the open market after the Chicago Cubs’ bold but short-lived experiment.
Last winter, the Cubs pulled off one of the biggest trades in recent memory when they acquired Tucker from the Houston Astros. Chicago had never handed out a free-agent contract north of $200 million, yet Tucker is now projected by The Athletic’s Jim Bowden to command a staggering $427 million this offseason.
With that price tag looming, the Cubs appear ready to let their prized acquisition walk rather than shatter their payroll ceiling. That has opened the door for big-market heavyweights, and few teams are better equipped—or more motivated—than the Dodgers.
Bleacher Report’s Erik Beaston recently forecasted that Tucker will leave the Windy City behind and land in Los Angeles on a massive deal.
“The outfielder is fresh off his first season in Chicago, in which he hit 22 home runs, drove in 73 runs, and stole 25 bases, all while missing 26 games due to a calf injury,” Beaston wrote.
“His mix of power and speed at the plate, coupled with his superb defensive play in the outfield, make him arguably the most complete player available. The Yankees and Dodgers are intriguing because they are already World Series contenders and Tucker would only further enhance their odds of winning a championship.”
While the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays will almost certainly be in the mix, the Dodgers stand out for several reasons.
Financially, they have the resources to absorb a half-billion-dollar commitment without blinking. On the field, they have a glaring need in the outfield after Michael Conforto’s disappointing and injury-plagued 2025 campaign fell far short of expectations.
Pairing Tucker with Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani would create one of the most fearsome trios in baseball history, giving Los Angeles an embarrassment of riches in both the lineup and the outfield defense. For a franchise that has shown no hesitation in pursuing the best talent available—regardless of cost—it feels less like a question of if they’ll make a run at Tucker and more a question of whether anyone else can realistically outbid them.
If the Dodgers do land the 28-year-old five-tool star, it would be a nightmare for the other 29 teams. For Dodgers fans, however, it would be the latest chapter in what has become a golden era of dominance—one that shows no signs of slowing down.
