Leon Edwards, the current UFC Welterweight champion, is the latest fighter who is setting his sights on Conor McGregor. While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Edwards revealed that he is hoping a bout with McGregor could be in the plans for later this year.

Leon Edwards is set to defend his belt against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 on July 27th in Manchester, England. He is confident that he will win that match, and his hopeful that his title defense after that will come against Conor McGregor.

McGregor of course has to handle business in his long-anticipated fight against Michael Chandler. That bout is set to headline UFC 303 at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. This is the first time that McGregor will be fighting in the UFC since 2021 when he lost to Dustin Poirer at UFC 264.

Should McGregor come away victorious there, Edwards already has a plan in place for where they could meet in the octagon. In November at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Leon Edwards would like to take on Conor McGregor. That update came from The MMA Hour, via MMA Orbit on X.

McGregor is someone that many UFC fighters would like to meet in the octagon. Facing off against him means big money as he is one of the most popular combat sport athletes in the world.

In addition to Leon Edwards, UFC Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has suggested he would like to fight Conor McGregor. That would require a huge jump up in weight class, but it is something O’Malley would be interested in for the huge payday.

O’Malley will first have to handle No. 1 contender Merab Dvalishvili before anything with McGregor can be set up. No official date has been set for that Bantamweight title fight, but it is rumored that September at the Sphere in Las Vegas could be the time and venue.
