Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involving LeBron James will surprise some people. It isn’t uncommon for superstars in the NBA to have some input into decisions that their franchise will make. Having your most important players happy is a key ingredient to a team finding success.
Throughout his NBA career, LeBron James has garnered a reputation for having a lot of input. Whether it is the coaching staff or player personnel, he has his hands on everything his team is doing.
That is what will make recent Lakers rumors so surprising. According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, LeBron James has not been involved in the team’s head coaching search.
“I’m told LeBron James is not involved in the Lakers head coaching search…James has made it clear that this is the organization’s decision, he’s had no conversions with the Lakers about JJ Redick,” Charania said during a recent segment on Run It Back on FanDuel TV.

The Lakers are looking for a replacement for Darvin Ham, who was fired after two seasons on the job. One of the candidates who have been connected to Los Angeles is former NBA player and current analyst and podcast host, JJ Redick.
Redick has a podcast with LeBron James, which led to many people connecting the dots in that fashion. If the two already have a budding relationship, it could possibly translate to Redick taking over as the team’s head coach.
Alas, this isn’t something the future Hall of Famer has any input in. Charania emphasized that he is hands-off and it will be up to Los Angeles Lakers brass to find a new head coach.
“LeBron James has made it clear that this is the organization’s decision,” Charania said. “He’s had no conversions with the Lakers about JJ Redick, his podcast partner. “He’s had no conversations with JJ about that position as well. I did speak to Rich Paul [James’ agent] this morning, and he said just because LeBron and JJ do a podcast together, that does not mean LeBron wants JJ Redick as his head coach.” (H/T Heavy)
This will be something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. Lakers rumors will swirl not only about their next head coach, but trades that could occur this offseason as they look to become contenders once again.
