The Kansas Jayhawks have made a significant addition through the NCAA transfer portal, securing Alabama transfer guard Rylan Griffen for their college basketball team next season.
According to a report by Joe Tipton of On3, Griffen, who played a crucial role in Alabama’s historic Final Four run this past season, will join Bill Self’s squad.
During his time at Alabama, Griffen proved himself as a valuable contributor, starting in every available game and boasting impressive averages of 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Additionally, he showcased his shooting prowess by maintaining a near 40 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.
Having spent two seasons at Alabama, Griffen was part of the acclaimed 2022 recruiting class alongside NBA Draft picks Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney. While initially serving as a reserve, Griffen played a role in Alabama’s 2023 success, which included winning the SEC regular season, SEC Tournament, and reaching the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.
Griffen’s addition bolsters an already formidable portal class for Kansas, which includes talents like South Dakota State guard Zeke Mayo and Florida wing Riley Kugel. With two years of eligibility remaining, Griffen will undoubtedly enhance the Jayhawks’ roster.
His decision to transfer marks one of six Alabama players entering the portal post-season, joining Nick Pringle, Mohamed Wague, Sam Walters, Davin Cosby, and Kris Parker.
Meanwhile, Alabama has made acquisitions of its own from the portal, securing talents like Pepperdine guard Houston Mallette, South Florida guard Chris Youngblood, and Auburn guard Aden Holloway.
As Alabama looks ahead to the next season, with two vacant roster spots, the focus remains on securing a guard and a rim protector while awaiting NBA Draft decisions from players such as Mark Sears and Grant Nelson.
