Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has had quite a 2024. His relationship with Taylor Swift has been headline news and he helped his team win the Lombardi Trophy for the third time in five seasons.

Things are going well for the Chiefs star, who can now add another accolade to his impressive resume; highest paid tight end in the NFL. That became official on Monday when it was announced that Kansas City and Kelce had agreed to a new extension.

As shared by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the new extension adds two years to Kelce’s current deal. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $34.25 million with $17 million fully guaranteed for the 2024 season. A majority of the rest of the money will be guaranteed on the third day of the 2025 league year.

“Hard to put in words what Travis means to this organization, this city, and he was certainly a priority to adjust his contract for us and it was something that was important for Clark [Hunt]. So very fitting that Travis [is] now the highest-paid tight end in these two years,” general manager Brett Veach said Monday.

Being the highest-paid tight end in the league is a distinction that Kelce has earned. He fell just 16 yards short of another 1,000-yard campaign in 2023, which would have been his eighth straight season reaching the century mark. His seven straight seasons are an NFL record.

For nine seasons and counting, Kelce has also been named to the Pro Bowl team. In seven out of those nine seasons, he has earned a spot in the All-Pro First or Second team as well. Not only has Kelce been dominant during the regular season, but he performs when the lights are brightest in the NFL postseason.

In 22 career playoff games, Kelce has caught 165 passes for 1,903 yards and 19 touchdowns. The receptions are a record for a tight end, as he could go down as the best player to ever man the position in NFL history.
