Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam achieved a remarkable milestone at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics by securing the gold medal in the women’s 1000m event. Her outstanding performance not only marked her first Olympic gold but also etched her name into the record books.

Competing on the ice in Italy, Leerdam delivered a powerful and precise race that culminated in a finishing time of 1:12.31. This effort established a fresh Olympic record, surpassing the mark set moments earlier by her Dutch teammate Femke Kok, who claimed silver. Japan’s Miho Takagi, the defending champion from Beijing 2022, rounded out the podium with bronze.

The race highlighted the dominance of the Netherlands in women’s speed skating, as the two Dutch athletes occupied the top spots. Leerdam’s controlled pacing, strong opening, and explosive finish allowed her to pull ahead decisively in the final stretch.

The victory carried deep personal significance for Leerdam, who had previously earned silver in the same distance at the Beijing Games. This time, the gold represented the pinnacle of her career thus far, celebrated amid an enthusiastic crowd filled with orange-clad supporters from her home country.

Adding to the emotional weight of the moment was the presence of her fiancé, Jake Paul. The well-known influencer and boxer watched from the stands and was visibly moved, shedding tears of joy as Leerdam crossed the line and embraced her historic win.

The spotlight on her achievement quickly translated into widespread attention beyond the arena. Leerdam’s social media presence grew substantially in the aftermath, reflecting the global interest in her story and success.

As of recent updates, her Instagram account boasts more than 6 million followers. She continues to engage actively with her audience, posting nearly every day and sharing glimpses of her life and celebrations following the triumph.

In one recent video shared on her official Instagram profile, Leerdam appeared stylish in a fur coat layered over a white top, with her newly won gold medal prominently displayed around her neck. She lip-syncs to a famous speech by musician Kanye West, where he reflects on speculation about his actions if he hadn’t won at the Grammys.

“I guess we’ll never know,” West says in his speech, as Leerdam lip-syncs his words while holding her shiny gold medal.

“I had to use the iconic Olympic Champion sound,” she wrote in her IG video post’s caption.

Alongside the playful clip, Leerdam expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters.

“I’m still taking it all in.. The love and support these past days have meant more than I can put into words! Love you all,” she added in the message to fans.

The post quickly resonated with her growing audience, accumulating over 250,000 likes and drawing more than 2,700 comments filled with congratulations and admiration for her accomplishment.

Looking ahead, Leerdam has another opportunity to build on this success. She is set to compete in the women’s 500m speed skating race on Sunday, where she will aim for additional hardware. With Jake Paul and a worldwide viewership expected to tune in, the event promises to be another thrilling chapter in her Olympic journey.
