Garrett Wilson has not asked the New York Jets for a trade, and he does not plan to.
Wilson answered “no” on Wednesday when asked whether he has requested a trade or will, Connor Hughes of SNY reported.
“I want to be here,” Wilson said. “I want to win games. That’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here.”
“I love it here,” Wilson continued. “Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest. But I’m hopeful.”
Sunday’s 28-25 home loss to the winless Miami Dolphins dropped New York to 2-5. Wilson caught two of three targets for 26 yards. All three came after halftime.
“A player of his magnitude, we have to do everything we can to try to get him the ball,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said after the game. “And again, I’m going to put that on myself, of him not getting the targets that he needs.”
“Because trust me, that’s in the game plan, to make sure that he gets the ball,” Glenn added. “So, we have to do everything we can to make sure we do that.”
Over the last two games, Wilson has drawn nine targets. He has six catches for 70 yards in that stretch.
A week before the Miami game, Wilson saw no need to lobby the coaches for the ball.
“They’ve got it covered,” Wilson told NewYorkJets.com on Oct. 21. “Coming to seek me out, whatever may be, those conversations don’t need to be made. They’re doing everything in their power to get the looks we need to get for me, having a sniper mentality, when I have a chance to make a play that will have an impact on a game.”
“I would say they’re on top of it, man,” Wilson noted. “It’s not like I’m trying to convince ’em. They see it that way, too.”
During Sunday’s second half, CBS cameras caught Wilson shouting on the sideline in Geno Smith’s direction.
“We were collaborating,” Wilson said afterward. “I don’t even think I was talking to Geno. I think we were both heated, but not at each other at all. That’s what that was.”
Smith completed 23 of 30 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Two went to Mason Taylor and one to Omar Cooper Jr.
“Well, I think sometimes that’s overblown as far as what people think is happening,” Glenn said Monday. “Sometimes those conversations could be totally something else.”
Russell Wilson, now an analyst for CBS Sports, has named the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers as fits for two straight weeks. If he were Garrett Wilson, the former quarterback said, “I’m going to the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Former Jets coach Rex Ryan took the opposite view on ESPN New York’s “DiPietro & Rothenberg.”
“This guy is not gonna run from a fight,” Ryan said. “I think just the opposite.”
Through seven games, Wilson has 37 catches for 444 yards. His three touchdowns came against Green Bay, Detroit and Cleveland. He went over 100 yards against the Lions and Browns.
The Jets selected Wilson 10th overall out of Ohio State in 2022. He was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year that season. His first three years produced 1,103, 1,042 and 1,104 receiving yards.
A sprained knee in a Week 10 win over Cleveland ended his 2025 season. He finished with 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.
The Jets signed him to a four-year, $130 million extension in July 2025. It includes $90 million guaranteed and runs through 2030. This season he carries a $10.1 million cap hit on a $3.07 million base salary.
In May 2025, two months before the extension, Wilson said after an OTA practice that he was hopeful to be “a Jet for life.”
The trade deadline is Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET. New York hosts the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, then plays at Kansas City on Nov. 8.
