Just a couple of weeks ago, ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas found himself in the crosshairs of social media outrage over his NCAA Tournament prediction.

Known for his sharp analysis, Bilas raised eyebrows—and tempers—when he forecasted that all four No. 1 seeds—Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston—would emerge as the Final Four teams. Fans, quick to pounce, mocked the pick as uninspired and overly safe, pointing out that such an outcome had only occurred once in tournament history, back in 2008.

The odds of a perfect bracket are notoriously slim—less likely than being struck by lightning or hitting the lottery jackpot—so skepticism was perhaps warranted. Historically, the top seeds may have the smoothest theoretical path to the championship, but the chaos of March Madness often defies logic.

Yet, as the tournament unfolded, Bilas’ detractors were forced to reconsider. By Sunday, three of his predicted teams had already punched their tickets to the Final Four. Florida delivered an impressive 97-84 victory over Texas Tech, Duke dominated Alabama 85-65, and Houston dispatched Tennessee 69-50.

All eyes then turned to Auburn, the final piece of Bilas’ puzzle, as they faced Michigan State. The Tigers didn’t disappoint, sealing the deal with a 70-64 win.

With that, Bilas’ prediction wasn’t just vindicated—it became a reality. The Final Four is now set, with Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston heading to San Antonio, Texas, for the showdown at the Alamodome this upcoming Saturday.

For Bilas, it’s more than a win; it’s a chance to take a well-earned victory lap after enduring weeks of fan backlash.

Oddsmakers are already weighing in on the championship odds. As of now, FanDuel lists Duke as the favorite at +105, followed closely by Florida at +206. Houston sits third with +300, while Auburn rounds out the pack at +500. These numbers reflect the strength of the top seeds, but as the tournament has shown, anything can happen when the stakes are this high.

Fans who were losing it over Bilas’ prediction might need to swallow their pride. Social media may have buzzed with scorn initially, but the analyst’s foresight has silenced the doubters—for now.
