Indianapolis Colts Land Big Take for Free Agent Spending Spree

The Indianapolis Colts were one of the more disappointing teams in the NFL this past season, going just 8-9 and missing the playoffs in spite of entering the year with high hopes.

While much of the Colts’ struggles were due to the horrific play of quarterback Anthony Richardson, they clearly had issues up and down the roster.

A big part of that had to do with Indianapolis’ awful secondary, which led to the team ranking 26th in the league in pass defense.

Well, it didn’t take long for the Colts to address their defensive backfield in free agency, agreeing to sign cornerback Charvarius Ward and safety Camryn Bynum on Day 1 of the legal tampering period.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell loves the moves for Indy, dubbing the Colts one of the biggest early winners of the free-agent period.

“Monday saw them come away with two critical players for new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo in the secondary,” Barnwell wrote. “Charvarius Ward was a Pro Bowl-caliber corner as recently as 2023, with off-field tragedy interrupting his 2024 season. And Cam Bynum was a valuable free safety for the Vikings, with the 26-year-old breaking up 19 passes over the past two years for Brian Flores, the seventh most of any safety over that time span.”

Indianapolis definitely should not be done making moves, as the Colts could still use some help along their offensive line, and they really need a tight end. Plus, they lost just one of their top pass rushers in Dayo Odeyingbo, so that is another hole they must fill.

But let’s remember that Indianapolis also has the NFL Draft to rectify some of these problems. With the Colts now running low on cap room, they may have to wait until next month to make some more truly significant additions.
