The start of the 2024 WNBA season has not gone as well as the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark had hoped. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft has taken her lumps, but she recently received support from a megastar in the sports world; Serena Williams.
There aren’t many people in the world who can understand what Caitlin Clark is going through currently. She is trying to adapt to everything that comes along with being a star in the sports world, as he is currently the biggest name in women’s basketball.
After a historic career at Iowa, many of her fans thought that she would enter the WNBA and find success immediately. However, that has not been the case. A higher level of physicality and athleticism has led to her needing to adjust her game.
Also, when you enter the media spotlight even more as a pro, some things occur outside of your control. Caitlin Clark has found herself in the middle of some heated debates she has stated she wants nothing to do with being in.
Such is life as a superstar, whose popularity is only growing. Serena Williams knows something about becoming an international sensation as one of the most dominant tennis players the world has ever seen.
Recently, she did an interview with the Associated Press at the premier of her docuseries, “In The Arena: Serena Williams”. She praised how well Caitlin Clark is holding things together while offering some advice on how to continue forward.
“I just love that she tries to stay grounded,” Williams said. “She said she doesn’t look at her social [media], I get it, I don’t either. I think it’s so important to just continue doing what she’s doing, no matter what other people do.”
“If people are negative, it’s because they can’t do what you do, basically,” she said. “And hopefully she’ll continue to do what she’s doing.” (H/T Heavy)
For as many people who doubt Caitlin Clark and want to see her fail, there are people who are supporting and want to see her succeed. Serena Williams falls into the latter, impressed by how the rookie has carried herself through some tough times at the start of her professional career.
There are better days on the horizon, as she and the Indiana Fever will only improve with experience. We are starting to see some of that work pay off in recent games, with the team winning two in a row and three out of their last four.
