Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, found himself at odds with head coach Sean McVay after the conclusion of the 2020 season.

As the 2021 season approached, McVay expressed his desire to part ways with Goff, leading to a significant trade that sent Goff to the Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

As the Rams gear up to face Goff and the Lions in the NFC Wild Card round at Ford Field this coming Sunday, Sean McVay took a moment to reflect on the era when Goff was under center in Los Angeles.

“Could it have been handled better on my end? Absolutely. And I’ll never run away from that. He deserved better than the way that it all went down. I’ll acknowledge that. And I think he knows that too. And I’m not afraid to admit to those things, but I think we’re all better being able to look back on those things. And I do have more appreciation for him as time goes on.”

During Jared Goff’s tenure with the Rams, which spanned five seasons, he completed an impressive 63 percent of his passes, amassing 18,171 yards, 107 touchdowns, and 55 interceptions.

The highly anticipated matchup between the Rams and the Lions is scheduled for Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. Eastern Time.
