Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have displayed vulnerability on offense throughout this season, prompting Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones to express unwavering confidence ahead of the Christmas Day clash between the two teams.
In a statement that quickly went viral on December 21, Jones emphasized, “We’re not worried about ’em.” When questioned about Kansas City’s receiving corps, he added, “It’s Patrick Mahomes we gotta stop… the magician. [If] you stop the magician, then the act is over.”
Jones’s assurance is rooted in his observations of the Chiefs’ passing game, which has witnessed a league-high 37 drops from Kansas City’s pass-catchers this season.
Despite the Chiefs’ passing game appearing formidable in their 31-17 triumph over the Raiders on November 26, there’s no certainty that it will maintain the same level of effectiveness, given the offensive inconsistencies throughout the season.
The Chiefs’ offense faced early struggles in the first quarter but managed to find success in the subsequent three quarters during their previous victory against the Raiders in Week 12.
In that game, Mahomes showcased his prowess by completing 27-of-34 pass attempts for 298 yards and securing two touchdowns. The standout performer for Kansas City was rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, who hauled in 8-of-10 targets for 107 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Travis Kelce also contributed significantly with 6 catches for 91 yards. Meanwhile, running back Isiah Pacheco emerged as the leading rusher for the Chiefs, tallying 55 yards on 15 carries and scoring twice on the ground.
It will be interesting to see how things go this time around between the bitter AFC West rivals. Las Vegas can only hope to slow Mahomes down, but that is easier said than done.
