Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay will not play in Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a knee injury, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Slay underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the issue, but Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that he is expected to be back by the end of the regular season.

The Eagles’ defense has been struggling in general this season, so this is certainly not the news they wanted to hear with the playoffs approaching.

Philadelphia ranks 22nd in the NFL in yards allowed, 28th in scoring defense and 28th in pass defense.

In 12 games this season, Slay has registered 57 tackles, a couple of interceptions, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The 32-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was originally selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He spent the first seven years of his career with the Lions, making three straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2017 and 2019 and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2017 when he racked up 60 tackles, eight picks, a fumble recovery and 26 passes defended.

Detroit then proceeded to trade Slay to Philadelphia in March 2020.

Darius Slay has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons in Philly and has only missed three games since arriving. His best year with the club thus far came in 2021, when he totaled 52 tackles, three interceptions, a pair of fumble recoveries, nine passes defended and three defensive scores.

The Brunswick, Ga. native is widely considered one of the best defensive backs in football.

The Eagles are 10-3 and currently sit in second place in the NFC East, as the Dallas Cowboys currently hold the tiebreaker over them. Philadelphia is coming off back-to-back blowout losses and is aiming to right the ship against the Seahawks.
