Patriots Legend Speaks Out On Jim Harbaugh To New England Chances

The New England Patriots haven’t struggled the way they have this season in decades. Yes, literally decades.

They currently hold a 4-12 record, which is the worst mark in the AFC and tied for the second-worst record in the entire NFL. If they lose this weekend to the New York Jets, they will finish with their worst record since the 1992 campaign, a season in which they had four different men start at quarterback.

Things have been so bad for them these days that many expect longtime head coach Bill Belichick to get dismissed once their schedule is over. The question is who would replace him should that actually happen.

Legendary New England tight end Rob Gronkowski hopes University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is the man to do it. While on the “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams,” he said Harbaugh would be a good option for his former team.

“Jim Harbaugh is super hot right now, especially coming off that win vs. [the University of] Alabama,” Gronkowski said. “He has experience in the NFL, he has success in the NFL with the [San Francisco] 49ers.”

NFL News & Rumors: Rob Gronkowski, Jim Harbaugh, New England Patriots

Harbaugh just guided the Wolverines to a win in the Rose Bowl over the Crimson Tide, and they will play the University of Washington for the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, Jan 8. He was suspended recently by the Big Ten Conference for allegedly taking part in a sign-stealing scandal, one that some say could hasten his departure from the college ranks.

He has coached before in the NFL, and he had plenty of success with a 49ers team that was deeply mired in ineptitude. He arrived there for the 2011 season and led them to a 13-3 record, a seven-game improvement over the prior season, and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. The following year, the Niners went to the Super Bowl where they lost by three points to the Baltimore Ravens.

Right now, the hot rumor is that Harbaugh wants to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and that the feeling may be mutual. Unlike the Patriots, the Chargers do have a young star quarterback in Justin Herbert, as well as other studs such as wide receiver Keenan Allen, who was just voted into the Pro Bowl, and pass rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.
