NFL Writer Urges Cowboys To Sign Intriguing RB In Free Agency

The Dallas Cowboys need some help in their ground game, as running back Tony Pollard was quite a disappointment this season and the team doesn’t have much depth behind him.

The problem for the Cowboys is that they currently have a rather delicate salary cap situation going into the offseason. They are about $11 million over the cap at the moment, meaning they will have to get creative in order to open up enough money to sign free agents.

Even if Dallas does manage to clear some cap room, it probably still won’t be enough to land one of the top halfbacks like Saquon Barkley. At least not if the Cowboys want money left over to fill other holes.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey thinks Dallas should target Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss.

While Tansey acknowledges that the Cowboys may be better off finding cheaper options in the backfield in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, he likes Moss as a free-agent target, which makes sense.

Moss filled in admirably for Jonathan Taylor when Taylor began the 2023 campaign on the PUP list, and he ended up rushing for 794 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry on the season overall. He also caught 27 passes for 192 yards and a couple of scores.

Sure, Moss isn’t a flashy name like Barkley or Derrick Henry, but behind Dallas’ elite offensive line, he could certainly help bolster a rushing attack that could merely need more depth to function better.

Moss spent the first two-and-a-half years of his career with the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Colts midway through last season.

This was by far the most productive year of his career, and it stands to reason that he could enjoy an even better season in 2024 if he links up with the Cowboys.
