The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to the trade they made with the Carolina Panthers during draft time last year.

The general consensus is that the Bears will trade Justin Fields and then take one of the top young quarterbacks (probably USC’s Caleb Williams) with the top selection.

However, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports sees Chicago going in a different direction.

Wilson predicts that the Bears will keep Fields and trade the first pick to the Washington Commanders for the No. 2 overall selection, No. 41 and a 2025 first-rounder.

He then says that Chicago will take Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will the No. 2 pick to provide some help for Fields in the aerial attack.

This will come as a surprise to most, as just about everyone is expecting the Bears to move Fields and start over under center, but it should be noted that many in Chicago’s organization apparently really like Fields.

Is it possible that the Bears will elect to move forward with Fields and simply try to build around him?

Fields certainly showed flashes of brilliance this season, throwing for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.3. In addition, he rushed for 657 yards and four scores. That came over the course of 13 starts, as Fields missed four games due to a dislocated thumb.

While those numbers may not look great, Fields had stretches in 2023 where he displayed tantalizing talent, and it surely caught the attention of Chicago’s front office.

The Bears still have a while to decide what they want to do, but they will certainly be one of the most interesting teams to watch this offseason.
