Patriots Connected As Possible Justin Fields Trade Suitor

Could the New England Patriots attempt to swing a trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields this coming offseason? Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports thinks so.

Ferreira compiled a list of five potential destinations for Fields this offseason, and the Patriots were one of the teams mentioned.

Ferreira notes that, as it stands, New England is slated to have the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft come April. The Bears currently own the No. 1 pick (via the Carolina Panthers), so if those standings remain, the Pats will almost surely just draft a quarterback.

However, Ferreira qualifies his statement by saying that if the Patriots win a couple of more games and end up moving down in the draft order, a Fields trade becomes more realistic.

The general consensus is that Chicago will be moving on from Fields after the season, but he has played well enough at point of this year to warrant legitimate trade interest from rival clubs.

In 10 starts this season, Fields has thrown for 1,976 yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 85.6. In addition, he has rushed for 488 yards and a couple of scores while averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

The 24-year-old missed four games due to a dislocated thumb, but in the weeks leading up to his injury in Week 6, Fields had shown flashes of brilliance, accumulating eight passing touchdowns and just one interception between Weeks 4 and 5.

Still, Justin Fields’ lack of consistency has been a major issue, as he has totaled three touchdowns and a couple of picks in four games since returning form the thumb injury.

New England is in need of a new signal-caller, as Mac Jones has not worked out. Whether or not the Pats feel that Fields could be the answer is anybody’s guess.

The Patriots are 3-11 and will head on the road to battle the Denver Broncos on Sunday. They will then face the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets to wrap up the 2023 campaign.
