Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins seems to be a fan of San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy.
While discussing Purdy on The Adam Schefter Podcast this week, Cousins had high praise for the youngster.
“Brock has a great chance of winning league MVP,” Cousins said. “He’s running the system at a very high level. I told him after we played him, ‘Hey, I played in this system. … You’re only in your second year. And what you did in your first year and your second year is incredible. … It’s really impressive.”
Cousins was referencing Kyle Shanahan’s system in San Francisco, as he played under Shanahan back when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins a decade ago.
“Kyle, I know he’s been in my corner my whole career,” added Cousins. “But I also think he’s very much in Brock’s corner, and knows he’s got a great player in Brock. And I think that’s going to suit him pretty well.”
Of course, many feel that Purdy is merely a product of Shanahan’s system and that if he played elsewhere, he wouldn’t be producing the same type of results.
But Cousins thinks Purdy is a terrific player regardless.
“I think he’s only going to get better,” Kirk Cousins said.
Purdy is in his first full season as the 49ers’ starting quarterback and is leading the NFL with 29 touchdown passes. He has also thrown for 3,795 yards and seven interceptions while completing 69.8 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 119.
The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by San Francisco with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Brock Purdy was pressed into starting duty his rookie campaign after season-ending injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. He went 5-0 in five starts.
The Niners are 11-3 and have won six games in a row. They will take on the Baltimore Ravens in a potential Super Bowl preview on Christmas Day.
