Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is slated to hit free agency this March, but he may not get very far.

Speaking about Cousins this week, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah say that he envisions having the 35-year-old back in Minnesota next season.

“Yeah. I’ve been pretty consistent with that,” Adofo-Mensah said, via Jeff Wald of Fox 9. “Kirk the player is somebody that, as we saw what he does to this team, I thought we were playing really good football before he got injured. It’s the most important position in sports. It ultimately always comes down to can you find an agreement that works for both sides and all those things, but as a player it’s certainly my intention to have him back here.”

Cousins tore his Achilles eight games into the season, knocking him out for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. He was brilliant when he was on the field, throwing for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions, but his age and injury has people wondering whether or not it would be worth it for the Vikings to invest much into Cousins long term.

The veteran signal-caller recently said that money will not be the biggest draw for him this offseason and that he values winning above all else. He also said earlier this season that he would be willing to take a discount to remain in Minnesota.

Cousins initially joined the Vikings as a free agent in 2018, making a couple of trips to the Pro Bowl with the club. However, Minnesota has not advanced any further than the Divisional Round of the playoffs since his arrival.

The good news is that the Vikings will have a decent amount of cap room to work with this offseason, so if they can get Cousins back on a hometown discount, they should still have money to spend to improve the roster elsewhere.

Minnesota went 7-10 this year.
