The Miami Hurricanes’ relentless quest for a quarterback through the transfer portal has finally paid off as they secure a new addition to their roster.

Reese Poffenbarger, the former standout quarterback from Albany, confirmed his transfer to Miami in an announcement to ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Monday. Poffenbarger is set to be eligible for immediate play and boasts two remaining years of eligibility.

Poffenbarger’s remarkable achievements in the FCS during the past season cannot be overlooked, where he led in both passing yards with an impressive 3,603 and touchdowns with 36. When asked about his decision, he stated that he chose Miami to position himself for a chance at competing for a national championship and ultimately fulfilling his dream of playing in the NFL.

Recent weeks saw Miami actively courting top transfer quarterbacks like Will Howard and Cam Ward. Howard, however, made his commitment to Ohio State public last week, and Ward has opted to enter the NFL Draft.

With Poffenbarger’s arrival, he will now enter the competition for the starting quarterback role with Miami, joining the likes of sophomore Jacurri Brown and freshman Emory Williams.

Miami endured a 7-6 season that culminated in a loss to Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. Their inaugural year under the leadership of head coach Mario Cristobal in 2022 yielded a 5-7 record. The Miami Hurricanes are harboring high hopes of making significant strides in the upcoming season, aiming for a more successful campaign.
