Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs will not play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day due to a quad injury and an illness, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL media.

This will mark the second straight game Jacobs has missed. He initially suffered the quad injury during the Raiders’ Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He carried the ball 13 times for 34 yards in the defeat.

On the season overall, Jacobs has rushed for 805 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 3.5 yards per carry in what has been the worst season of his career to date. He has also caught 37 passes for 296 yards.

Jacobs, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Raiders with the 24th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a very impressive rookie campaign, totaling 1,150 yards and seven scores on the ground while logging a robust 4.8 yards per attempt. He did all of that in 13 games.

The following year, Jacobs made his first Pro Bowl appearance after finishing with 1,065 yards and 12 touchdowns, registering 3.9 yards per tote. He added 33 catches for 238 yards.

Jacobs took a bit of a step back in 2021, recording 872 yards while reaching the end zone nine times on as a rusher. He posted four yards per carry and hauled in 54 receptions for 348 yards.

Then, last year, the 25-year-old had the best season of his NFL tenure, racking up a league-leading 1,653 rushing yards to go along with 12 touchdowns. He averaged a hefty 4.9 yards per attempt and also snared 53 balls for 400 yards as a receiver.

Josh Jacobs is in the final year of his deal with Las Vegas, as he was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Raiders before the season began.

Las Vegas is coming off of a dominant 63-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. It is 6-8 on the year.

After battling the Chiefs in Kansas City on Christmas, the Raiders will remain on the road next where when they take on the Indianapolis Colts. They will then wrap up the regular season back home when they host the Denver Broncos on Jan. 7.

The Raiders have made the playoffs just twice since 2003.
