Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played in 15 games since taking over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2018, but his Divisional Round matchup against the Buffalo Bills next Sunday will represent a first for Mahomes: his first road playoff game (h/t Adam Schefter of ESPN).

Mahomes and the Chiefs are coming off of a blowout home win over the Miami Dolphins in brutal weather conditions this past weekend. Mahomes didn’t put forth his best numbers, going 23-for-41 with 262 yards and a touchdown, but considering how cold and blustery it was at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, it was actually an impressive performance.

The 28-year-old had a rather pedestrian regular season by his standards, throwing for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 92.6. He notched his sixth straight Pro Bowl selection, but it certainly wasn’t the type of campaign we have become accustomed to seeing Mahomes have.

Going a bit further, Mahomes averaged only 261.4 passing yards per game after registering an NFL-leading 308.8 passing yards last season. As a matter of fact, the two-time MVP only posted 300 yards four times this year.

It has actually been a rather strange season for Kansas City overall.

The Chiefs’ offense struggled throughout the year, averaging just 21.8 points per game. By contrast, the team tallied 29.2 points per game in 2022. Additionally, Kansas City scored under 20 points eight times and only eclipsed 30 points on three occasions.

Regardless, because the Chiefs are defending champions and have won two Super Bowls in the last four years, they remain a dangerous team in the playoffs.

Patrick Mahomes and Co. lost to the Bills earlier in the season, but that game was in Kansas City. This time, the Chiefs will aim for some revenge in Buffalo.
