Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played in 15 playoff games since becoming the team’s starter in 2018, but he has yet to play one on the road.

That is about to change this weekend, as Mahomes and the Chiefs will be battling the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Mahomes is expecting a tough reception in Buffalo.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of games qt home at Arrowhead Stadium,” Mahomes said, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “But now we have a great opportunity to go on the road, play in a hostile environment, one where I haven’t been able to play with fans in the stands. Even though I know it’s going to be hostile and there are going to be people talking trash, I’m excited for it because it’s one of the best environments in football, and you want to do that when you grow up watching these games, play in the best environment and see what it’s like.”

The 28-year-old had a disappointing season for his standards, throwing for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 92.6.

Still, Mahomes remains dangerous in the postseason, as he has led Kansas City to a pair of Super Bowl championships and three Super Bowl appearances.

Basically, he knows how to win in the playoffs regardless of the venue.

“I go into every game with the same mindset, and that’s to go out there and win,” he said. “We understand it’s going to be a great challenge, we understand it’s going to be a hostile environment, and we’re playing a great football team. We know it’s going to be a great challenge for us but our mindset is we’re going to prepare ourselves this week to go out there to win the football game, and that never changes.”

The Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card Round last week, coming away with a 26-9 victory in brutal weather conditions.

We’ll see if Patrick Mahomes can deliver on the road this Sunday.
