Jets Predicted To Make Massive Offseason Blockbuster Trade

Davante Adams
Nov 12

If the 2023 season showed us anything about the New York Jets, it is that they aren’t as close to contending as they believed they were. Having Aaron Rodgers under center certainly would have helped the offense out significantly, but there were still some major issues that need addressing.

Among them is the wide receiver position. Garrett Wilson looks like a bonafide star in his first two seasons in the NFL. He has recorded 80+ receptions and reached the 1,000-yard mark both years and is a building block on offense along with running back Breece Hall.

But, the rest of the players at wide receiver left a lot to be desired in 2023. The Jets spent $44 million to bring in Allen Lazard, one of Rodgers’ favorite targets with the Green Bay Packers. He set career lows with 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown.

Lazard was a healthy scratch more times than he got into the end zone, leaving a major void in the lineup behind Wilson. The other receiver signed to appease Rodgers, Randall Cobb, was even worse than Lazard.

In need of an upgrade at the position, could the Jets turn to another one of Rodgers’ favorite targets with the Packers? Jets analyst Joe Caporoso of “Badlands” has suggested the team make a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams this offseason.

His proposed trade is Adams heading to New York in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick, 2025 second-round pick and 2025 fourth-round pick. (H/T Heavy) That is significantly cheaper than what the Raiders paid to acquire Adams, as they sent first and second-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft to Green Bay.

However, sending out that much draft capital for a 31-year-old wide receiver does hold risks. Those risks were mitigated slightly when Adams showed that he could still play at a high level despite underwhelming quarterback production.

While no one produced as little as the Jets through the air, the Raiders weren’t much better with Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Aidan O’Connell leading the way. On top of that, Las Vegas also had a coaching change midseason and Adams still produced at a high level.

Bringing him to New York has been something on the rumor mill since Rodgers arrived with the team as well. The Jets are in in-now mode and will do whatever they can to upgrade the roster around their future Hall of Fame quarterback as no one knows how long he will be sticking around for.
