Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles went out with a whimper on Monday night, falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 32-9 in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Afterward, Hurts explained what went wrong for the Eagles late in the season.

“For us this year, I don’t think we played well,” Hurts said on Tuesday, via the Eagles’ official team website. “Didn’t play well enough. the identity, the consistency, the execution for us, the turnovers — everything, all of those come into play when you talk about having the opportunity to win championships. Something we have to be able to learn from.”

Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start this season and seemed well on track to cruise to a second straight NFC East division title. It also appeared primed to make another Super Bowl appearance, and this time, Philly looked like the favorite to win the whole thing.

However, the Eagles proceeded to lose five of their last six regular-season games, including embarrassing back-to-back losses to the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants in Weeks 17 and 18.

Philadelphia still managed to go into its Wild Card matchup with the Buccaneers as favorites, as some were still expecting Philly to regain its previous form. Instead, the Eagles fell behind 13-0 early and never recovered in what was an overall listless effort from the club.

Hurts went 25-for-35 with 250 yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia’s collapse has created all sorts of questions for the club heading into the offseason, such as whether or not the team will bring back Nick Sirianni as head coach.

It also seems pretty evident that Philly’s defense needs some work, as the team was regularly shredded during the back half of the season.

On top of all of that, Hurts took a massive step back this year.

It’s going to be a long offseason for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.
