The Jacksonville Jaguars need to beat the Tennessee Titans in their regular-season finale this Sunday in order to win the AFC South division title, so the health of quarterback Trevor Lawrence is paramount.
Lawrence missed the Jaguars’ win over the Carolina Panthers last weekend due to a shoulder injury, and his status for the Titans matchup is up in the air.
However, the third-year signal-caller provided a positive update concerning his shoulder issue on Thursday.
“It’s feeling better,” Lawrence said, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, missing last week’s game is a little slower than I would’ve liked to be progressing. It actually feels pretty decent today, it’s getting better every day. I’m just trying to be cautious but also aggressive in how I’m trying to treat it and do everything I can to get back as quick as possible, but also be smart.”
Lawrence suffered the injury during Jacksonville’s Week 16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“It’s a fine line, but I’m feeling better,” he said.
Lawrence has dealt with multiple injuries recently. In Week 13, he sustained a high-ankle sprain in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but he did not miss any time. He then suffered a concussion during his team’s Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but cleared protocol in time to play against the Buccaneers.
“I think certain movements bother it more than others, there’s some things that I can do and some areas where I have totally normal strength,” Lawrence said of his shoulder. “It’s functional and all of that, but certain positions, there is some aggravation. That’s getting better every day, but still, would like to see that go down a little bit before I just totally let it loose.”
The Jags snapped a four-game losing streak with their victory over the Panthers and now sit at 9-7. They are aiming to make back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since the 1999-00 campaign.
Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 3,736 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season.
