Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has cleared concussion protocol and will likely be starting against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

On Friday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said that Lawrence was a “coin flip” to play this weekend. His current designation is questionable.

Lawrence suffered the concussion during his team’s Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He finished the game with the injury and reported the symptoms afterward. He went 25-for-43 with 264 yards and a touchdown in the contest.

This marks the second injury Lawrence has dealt with over the last several weeks.

During an overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this month, Lawrence sustained a high-ankle sprain. Fortunately, the injury was not as severe as initially anticipated and he did not miss any time because of it.

On the season overall, Lawrence has thrown for 3,525 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 90.5.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was selected by the Jaguars with the first overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He had a disappointing rookie campaign, finishing with 12 touchdowns and 17 picks. Then, last year, Trevor Lawrence broke out, totaling 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.3 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 95.2.

Jacksonville was 8-3 at one point earlier this year and looked like it was cruise to an AFC South division title, but it has since lost three straight games to fall into a three-way tie with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. Technically, the Jags are still in first place by way of the tiebreaker, but they have certainly made things more difficult for themselves in the closing weeks.

After facing the Buccaneers this weekend, the Jaguars will take on the Carolina Panthers and the Tennessee Titans to wrap up the regular season.

Jacksonville is aiming to make back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since the 1999-00 campaign.
