Jaguars’ Coach Reveals Injury Update On Trevor Lawrence

It has been a rough few weeks for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, both in terms of performance and health.

Lawrence, who suffered a high-ankle sprain a few weeks ago and has been playing through it, also sustained a concussion during his team’s Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

On Wednesday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson provided an update on Lawrence during his press conference, noting that Lawrence is still in concussion protocol and is “progressing well,” via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Jacksonville will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in a pivotal matchup, so whether or not Lawrence will be available remains to be seen.

Should Lawrence not be available, C.J. Beathard would get the start.

Lawrence went 25-for-43 with 264 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens. Back in Week 13, he injured his ankle during an overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury turned out to be less severe than initially anticipated, so Lawrence has been able to play in spite of it.

However, the Jags have lost three games in a row and have seen their lead in the AFC South evaporate. Once 8-3, the Jaguars are now 8-6 and are locked in a three-way tie with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans for first place. Jacksonville is technically in first due to tiebreakers, but it is obviously a very delicate situation.

On the season overall, Lawrence has thrown for 3,525 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 90.5 in what can certainly be described as a step back from his terrific sophomore campaign last year.

Trevor Lawrence was selected by the Jaguars with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

After battling the Buccaneers, Jacksonville will face the Carolina Panthers and the Tennessee Titans to close out the regular season.
