The Green Bay Packers are facing concerns over the condition of their talented edge rusher, Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare, following their recent victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that there are fears Enagbare may have torn his ACL in the game. This unfortunate injury now casts doubt on his availability for the upcoming round of the playoffs.
Despite the setback, Enagbare managed to contribute with one tackle in the Packers’ impressive 48-32 win over Dallas in the Wild Card round, showcasing his value to the team’s defense throughout the season.
Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed his empathy for Enagbare’s situation, stating, “My heart hurts right now for (him),” and he also admitted that the outlook for Enagbare’s injury does not appear promising.
Enagbare, a former fifth-round draft pick from South Carolina, made significant strides in his second season with the Packers. He solidified his position in the team’s defensive line rotation after an impressive rookie year.
Over the course of the 2022 season, Enagbare registered the highest number of pressures on the team during the last eight games, showcasing his impact on the defensive front. Throughout the season, he accumulated 37 tackles, recorded two sacks, made eight tackles for loss, and forced a fumble.
Before joining the NFL, Enagbare had an impressive collegiate career with the South Carolina Gamecocks, amassing a total of 121 tackles over four seasons. His standout performance in 2021 included 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.
Enagbare’s success continued after being drafted by the Packers, with a strong rookie season where he contributed 31 tackles and three sacks in 17 games played. He is currently under a four-year contract with Green Bay, valued at $3.9 million, with no provision for a fifth-year extension.
Barring an early trade, he will remain with the Green Bay Packers until 2025, further solidifying his role in the team’s future plans.
