Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love took a lot of flak earlier in the season, but a legitimate argument can be made that he has actually been better than Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes this year.

Through the first 15 games of 2023, Love has thrown for 3,587 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 62.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 91.8.

Meanwhile, Mahomes has totaled 3,938 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 picks while completing 66.9 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 91.2.

Now, can you simply look at stats and then draw a be-all-end-all conclusion? Of course not, but it’s hard to ignore how similar the two players’ numbers look (and how Love’s numbers have actually been a bit better). It’s also important to keep in mind that Love has been doing this without an All-Pro tight end like Travis Kelce.

To be fair to Mahomes, it’s not like he has a ton of weapons outside of Kelce. Yes, rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has been impressive, but otherwise, it has been slim pickings for the two-time MVP.

But it’s not like Love has a whole lot more at his disposal. Heck, his No. 1 receiver—Christian Watson—has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries and has actually underperformed when he has been on the field.

This isn’t to say that Love is a better player than Mahomes, because he isn’t. But perhaps we were all a little too hard on Love when he went through that rough stretch in the early stages of the year?

Love had a run between Weeks 4 and 9 when he was brutal. He accumulated seven touchdowns and nine interceptions and the Packers went 1-5 during that span. We get it.

However, since then, Jordan Love has largely been terrific, recording 13 touchdowns and just one pick in six games as Green bay has gone 4-2.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes has logged four straight outings with at least one interception a the Chiefs have lost three of their last four.
