Packers Get Massive Injury Update On Key Offensive Piece Before Week 16

The Green Bay Packers have designated tight end Luke Musgrave to return from the injured reserve list, via Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports.

Ferreira has missed the last four games due to a lacerated kidney he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers back in Week 11.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said they would be monitoring Musgrave’s progression on a day-to-day basis, so there is no guarantee that he will play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Musgrave can now participate in individual and team activities. The Packers can put him back on the field at any point over the next three games. If not, he goes back on the injured reserve list.

Not that that would really matter all that much, as Green Bay’s playoff chances have all but evaporated courtesy of a two-game losing streak that has dropped the club to 6-8.

In the 10 games Musgrave has played this season, he has logged 33 catches for 341 yards and a touchdown.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Oregon State, was selected by the Packers in the second round of the NFL Draft back in the spring.

Musgrave didn’t actually post a ton of production in college, amassing a grand total of 47 catches for 633 yards and a couple of touchdowns over parts of four seasons. However, he put up great results at the NFL Scouting Combine, and his athleticism and raw talent attracted the attention of Green Bay in the draft.

The Packers are short on weapons as it is, so getting Musgrave back into the fold would definitely provide a big boost for Jordan Love and the offense.

Green Bay seems primed to miss the playoffs for the second straight year. After battling the Panthers on the road this weekend, the Packers will take on the Minnesota Vikings and then the Chicago Bears to close out the regular season.
