Mason Rudolph

The ongoing drama surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers continues to capture headlines. Recent reports suggest that Kenny Pickett declined to serve as the backup to Mason Rudolph, a decision that may have influenced Coach Mike Tomlin’s choice to stick with Rudolph for the season’s final game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Irrespective of the reasons behind this decision, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky has expressed his support for it.

During an appearance on NFL Live, Orlovsky highlighted the improved performance of the Steelers’ offense under Rudolph’s guidance. This improvement can be attributed to the team’s ability to utilize George Pickens in various positions and creating opportunities in the center of the field for Diontate Johnson.

Rudolph and Pickens have quickly developed a strong on-field connection, with Pickens emerging as the team’s standout offensive player this season. When examining the statistics, it becomes evident that the team has fared significantly better with Rudolph at the helm compared to when Pickens was in the lineup.

Given the critical juncture in the season, the Steelers cannot afford to take unnecessary risks.

Although the Baltimore Ravens have already clinched both the AFC North Division title and the top seed in the AFC, they might approach this game with a degree of relaxation. However, it remains a divisional rivalry, and they would relish the opportunity to exact revenge on Mike Tomlin’s team for a previous season loss.

The stage is set for the Steelers to secure a victory and keep their postseason hopes alive. The looming decision about the quarterback position adds an additional layer of intrigue to this critical moment in their season.
