Eagles Planning Free Agency Pursuit Of Saquon Barkley?

Bob Brookover, the New York Giants beat writer for NJ Advance Media on NJ.com, has suggested that the Philadelphia Eagles should set their sights on acquiring New York running back Saquon Barkley if he becomes a free agent when the new league year begins in March.

In his recent article, Brookover emphasized the potential value Barkley could bring to the Eagles, describing him as a game-changing talent and a strong leader who could elevate their offense to new heights.

Brookover pointed out that history has shown numerous instances of running backs making a significant impact after switching teams, becoming key contributors to Super Bowl-winning squads.

While Barkley has publicly expressed his desire to remain with the Giants for his entire career, he also admitted that he would be open to exploring a fresh start elsewhere if the Giants’ general manager, Joe Schoen, fails to present a contract offer that both he and his camp consider fair and sensible.

Brookover proposed that Barkley could unlock his full potential with the Eagles, benefiting from the team’s formidable offensive line, similar to how Christian McCaffrey thrived with the San Francisco 49ers after leaving the Carolina Panthers.

Eagles cornerback James Bradberry even envisioned Barkley putting up stats similar to McCaffrey’s in a contender like Philadelphia or San Francisco, praising their shared quickness, powerful running style, and ability to make plays as receiving threats out of the backfield.

Schoen has the option to retain Barkley for another year using the franchise tag, which would cost the Giants approximately $12.1 million. This move would serve as a temporary arrangement while negotiations for a long-term contract continued throughout the spring.

For the Eagles, who started the current season strongly at 10-1 but later stumbled to an 11-5 record, Saquon Barkley could potentially be the missing piece to their championship puzzle if they once again fall short of winning the Super Bowl.
