After the Dallas Cowboys’ early exit from the playoffs, both Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott have been subjected to intense scrutiny.

However, Jerry Jones confirmed on Wednesday night that McCarthy will continue as the team’s head coach in 2024. McCarthy has also expressed his desire to keep Prescott on board.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, McCarthy made it clear on Thursday that Prescott is a crucial part of the team’s future plans.

“I believe in Dak Prescott.”

This affirmation comes in light of Prescott’s exceptional performance during the season while McCarthy took on offensive play-calling duties. The 30-year-old quarterback threw an impressive 36 touchdowns, achieving career-highs in completion percentage (69.5) and quarterback rating (105.9).

The topic of turnovers had been a major point of discussion surrounding Prescott after he recorded a career-high of 15 interceptions in 2022. However, during the 2023 regular season, the former fourth-round pick limited himself to just nine interceptions out of 590 passes.

Nevertheless, Prescott did throw two interceptions in a tumultuous start during the Cowboys’ 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Despite this challenging beginning, Prescott managed to amass 403 passing yards and three touchdowns during the wild-card upset. However, it’s important to note that most of these statistics were achieved after the Cowboys fell behind 27-0.

Prescott stood by Mike McCarthy when there were speculations about the coach’s job security following the loss. With Prescott under contract and a substantial $59.5 million cap hit in 2024, it’s unlikely that the Cowboys will make any changes at the quarterback position. The real question now revolves around whether Prescott will be in line for a significant contract extension, especially in the wake of another disappointing postseason.
